Plenary Lecture: Translation of Metallic 2D Materials from Science to Technology

General

This presentation explores the commercialization of metallic two-dimensional (2D) MoS₂ nanosheets for lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries. Our research, initiated nearly 15 years ago, focused on understanding the fundamental properties of metallic 2D materials for electrochemical applications. We have shown that these materials excel as catalysts for hydrogen evolution reactions, electrodes for supercapacitors, and more recently, as cathodes for Li-S batteries. Our materials have achieved the highest energy density and cycle life reported for Li-S batteries. This progress has led to the establishment of Molyon, a spin-off company aiming to scale up production of these materials to the ton level and demonstrate practical, high-energy-density batteries.
