The University of Coimbra (UC) is a Portuguese higher education institution with over 700 years of experience in education, training and research. The first Portuguese university and the only one in the Portuguese-speaking world for several centuries, the UC has affirmed its position over the years through a unique combination of tradition, contemporaneity and innovation. With a unique tangible and intangible heritage, fundamental to the history of European and world scientific culture, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013.

Today, the University of Coimbra has eight Faculties (Letters, Law, Medicine, Science and Technology, Pharmacy, Economics, Psychology and Educational Sciences, Sports Sciences and Physical Education) and more than 22,000 students.

To study at the University of Coimbra is to continue the history of the country's intellectual matrix, which has trained the most outstanding personalities in national culture, science and politics.

In 2020, the UC was considered the best institution in Portugal and the only one in the world's top 20 (17th place) in terms of fulfilment of the Health and Well-being indicator, the third UN Sustainable Development Goal, according to the second edition of Times Higher Education's "The University Impact Rankings".
