The Universitat de les Illes Balears, heir to the Universitat Lul·iana de Mallorca, was created in 1978. Since then, this public institution of higher education has followed a path that has led it to increasingly higher levels of academic quality and social responsibility.


It currently has 41 Bachelor's degrees, four of which are double degrees, 33 official Master's degrees, 24 doctoral programmes and 93 UB-specific degrees. The centres where it teaches are on the islands of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza. The UIB has 17,000 students enrolled in the different training programmes, more than 1,000 members make up the Teaching and Research Staff and around 700 people work in the Administrative and Service Staff.
