A Pseudomonas putida strain engineered through synthetic biology capable of producing 5-carboxymethylpyridine-2-carboxylic acid (2,5-CPDCA) from lignin-derived monomers. 2,5-CPDCA is an analog of homoterephthalic acid, used for synthesizing plastic polyesters.

Es el primer método biológico descrito para la producción de 2,5-CPDCA. El proceso tiene una eficiencia de conversión de hasta el 74% a partir de monómeros aromáticos de lignina. La generación de 2,5-CPDCA es respetuosa con el medio ambiente ya que, a diferende residuos cia de la síntesis de los tereftalatos, no es dependiente de fuentes petroquímicas.
