Son más estables que otros nanosistemas lipídicos (emulsiones o vesículas). No producen efecto bactericida. Son útiles para tratar o prevenir infecciones bacterianas crónicas con presencia de biopelículas y también para inhibir la formación de biopelículas sobre implantes o superficies. Las formulaciones son versátiles lo que permite optimizar su efecto anti-biopelícula frente a un amplio espectro de cepas bacterianas.
