The invention relates to a binary complex formed by an organic zinc chelate as an active agent and at least one flavonoid as a zinc ion carrier ionophore, wherein the complex is formed by the cation Zn2+ bound through four ligands to flavonoid molecules by chelation, providing high stability to the complex. The invention also relates to the use of flavonoids as ion carrier ionophores, as well as to a pharmaceutical and/or nutraceutical composition comprising said complex as an active agent and which may be simply diluted in water. The subject matter of the invention is the use of the complex and of the composition comprising it in medicine, specifically in the prevention and treatment of viral or bacterial infectious diseases, as well as chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. The use of the composition as a nutraceutical is also envisaged.

The synergy between the zinc chelate and the flavonoids improve the efficacy and effect compared to current products on the market applied to the treatment of infections, disease prevention and nutritional uses.
