Biomedical systems for planning, more precise and with complete traceability are trends in medicine. The Bioinstrumentation and Clinical Engineering Research Group (GIBIC) of the University of Antioquia has developed a positioning system based on alternating current electromagnetic fields for support in neurosurgery, which allows surgical planning and assistance in surgical procedures that require precise localization. With this equipment, three-dimensional visualization of surgical instruments is achieved in real time on medical images and 3D reconstruction of the skull. It has specific software that can be used as a training system in procedures such as ventriculostomies, biopsy and stereotactic planning. In addition, it resolves metal interference through dual AC sensors.
*APPLICATIONS: ✓ Planning of complex surgeries. ✓ Training of specialized personnel. ✓ Brain and spine surgeries. *ADVANTAGES-BENEFITS: ✓ Portability and adaptability of the equipment. ✓ Own configurable software. ✓ Integration of images obtained from computed tomography and nuclear magnetic resonance. ✓ Three-dimensional visualization of surgical instruments in real time. ✓ Technical support and adaptation to procedural needs and user requirements. ✓ Improved traceability and a posteriori verification of procedures. ✓ More precise treatment for patients with neurological and lumbar pathologies, among others.
