Peritoneal dialysis solutions containing a natural flavonoid as an osmotic agent
ES 2 958 165 B2
The invention relates to peritoneal dialysis solutions comprising troxerutin or vitamin P4 as an osmotic agent. The invention also relates to the procedure for preparing said solutions and to the new use of troxerutin.

Advantages: -Greater safety compared to glucoseTroxerutin has lower cellular toxicity and causes less induction of EMT (epithelial-mesenchymal transition) in mesothelial cells. It reduces peritoneal membrane fibrosis and local inflammation in animal models. -High osmotic efficacyUltrafiltration capacity comparable to 4.25% glucose solutions, but using lower concentrations (1–3% w/v).Appropriate molecular weight ($743\text{ Da}$) allows for daily exchanges without the limitations of higher-weight agents (like icodextrin). -Beneficial pharmacological properties: Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. May protect organs such as the heart from complications associated with traditional peritoneal dialysis. Applications: Chronic kidney disease treatment: Substitution of glucose in peritoneal dialysis for patients with renal failure.
