Applications

The protected redox flow battery is based on at least one flow-through electrode and immiscible electrolytes (i.e. liquid electrolytes insoluble in each other, that when put in contact form two phases). The use of the redox battery has the following advantages: - Reduced operative and fabrication cost compared to other redox batteries. - Increased energy density. - More robust and durable that the batteries of the art. - It is able to work in dynamic state at high flow rates. - It has at least one flow-through electrode, reducing overpotentials compared to batteries with flow-by electrodes.

Una batería de flujo es un tipo de batería que se recarga mediante dos disoluciones contenidas dentro del sistema y separadas por una membrana. El intercambio de iones a través de la membrana proporciona el flujo de corriente eléctrica, mientras los dos líquidos circulan en sus respectivos espacios. Ventajas:

  • Longevidad muy superior a la mayoría de las pilas recargables convencionales.
  • Electrolitos separados.

Proponemos una batería de flujo redox basada en al menos un electrodo de flujo continuo y electrolitos inmiscibles (es decir, electrolitos líquidos insolubles entre sí, que cuando se ponen en contacto forman dos fases). El uso de la batería redox tiene las siguientes ventajas:

  • Costo operativo y de fabricación reducido en comparación con otras baterías redox.
  • Aumento de la densidad de energía.
  • Mayor robustez y durabilidad.
  • Capaz de trabajar en estado dinámico a caudales elevados.
  • Reducción de los sobrepotenciales.
