INSTALLATION FOR STORING THERMOCHEMICAL-MECHANICAL ENERGY AND ENERGY STORAGE METHOD
WO20225467
The invention relates to an installation for storing thermochemical-mechanical energy and an energy storage method. The energy storage installation comprises an endothermic block with an endothermic reactor (1) configured to receive a stream of methanol (2) and heat at medium/low temperature and to produce a synthesis gas (3) by means of the thermal decomposition of the methanol; an exothermic block with an exothermic reactor (5) configured to receive a stream of synthesis gas from the endothermic block and to produce a stream of methane-rich gas (6) at high pressure and high temperature, by means of methanation; and a thermal motor (7) configured to receive the methane-rich stream (6) and to generate mechanical energy. The energy storage method is carried out in the installation.

Novel thermochemical energy storage concept based on affordable and existing renewable technologies and reactors. Characterised with high flexibility for integrating different renewable sources and with a diversity of pathways for energy delivery and renewable natural gas production. Capacity for direct energy storage, with intermediate temperature energy storage in chemical bonds, and heat release at higher temperatures. The products can be used in closed loop or as raw material for existing combustion technologies, manufacturing industries and existing power systems. Added value chain for renewable fuels production.
A new thermochemical concept with high flexibility for integrating renewables and integration in renewable natural gas production
