AIRBORNE SYSTEMS AND DETECTION METHODS LOCALISATION AND PRODUCTION OF IMAGES OF BURIED OBJECTS AND CHARACTERISATION OF THE COMPOSITION OF THE SUBSURFACE
US2019033441
The systems comprise at least one aerial module with a radar unit that emits and/or captures radar signals, a positioning and guidance system with an accuracy equal to or less than 3 cm, and a ground station with a flight control system and a radar signal processing unit, where radar signal processing algorithms are applied.
The invention also comprises a method for the detection, localization and obtaining of images of buried objects and a method for the characterization of the composition of the subsoil.
Applicable in sectors that require the detection of buried objects, as for example in civil applications (detection of antipersonnel mines), pipeline inspection or Archaeology.

- Drones are used to detect buried objects through innovative techniques in the field of signal processing.
- Great speed and exploratory extension, as the use of drones allows to explore large areas quickly even in difficult terrain.
- Simultaneous characterization of subsurface composition and buried elements detection. Providing a clear picture of both thanks to a SAR processing algorithm combined with an algorithm for eliminating clutter and an algorithm for correcting the focus of the radar image due to possible fluctuations of the drone.
- It emits and/or captures radar signals at different positions in order to obtain 3D subsurface images with cm-level resolution.
- The method for characterizing the subsurface composition works with any GPR system not requiring recalibration (the processing algorithm is system-independent).
- Simple and fast implementation method not requiring high investment for development.
