LAB-ON-COFFEE

Lab-on-coffee is a demonstrator of the capabilities of developing and manufacturing analysis devices that include microfluidics and sensors. This technology can be used to manufacture disposable cartridges for analysing liquid samples, which can be heated locally. The printed sensors can be of different types, such as capacitive, resistive or temperature sensors, among others. Electrochemical sensors can be functionalised to identify and quantify specific substances with great robustness.

This technology can be used to manufacture cost-effective disposable analysis cartridges specifically designed for the quantitative detection of substances of interest. It can be used for analytes of very different chemical natures, from metals to biomolecules. Specific examples include:
- Detection of lactate in sweat to improve athletic performance.
- Glucose analysis in food, for controls in the agri-food industry.
- Detection of biomolecules, for the selection of drugs in personalised medicine.
- Cell separation, for cancer diagnosis.
