We have developed an enhanced graphene-based sensor that integrates ultrapure metallic nanoparticles deposited by a physical, ultra-high-vacuum process. The controlled nanoparticle coating enables independent tuning of particle size and surface density on graphene, increasing the active surface area while preserving the intrinsic properties of the material. This results in a significant improvement in sensor sensitivity and signal reproducibility, enabling more reliable molecular detection for advanced sensing applications.

Applications

The prototype is intended for high-sensitivity molecular detection in applications where conventional graphene sensors are limited by signal intensity or reproducibility. By combining graphene with precisely engineered nanoparticle coatings, the device enables enhanced detection of trace-level molecules.

Practical applications include chemical and biological sensing, such as environmental monitoring (pollutants, toxic gases), biomedical diagnostics (biomarker detection), and industrial process control.
