Ostofix

Ostofix is a patented, innovative medical device developed by Ownmed Innovation to enable continence control in people with an ostomy. Placed directly on the stoma, it prevents reflux and allows users to retain intestinal contents and actively choose when and where evacuation occurs, reducing leaks, skin complications, and psychosocial impact. The device combines a passive retention mechanism with a controlled evacuation valve, is reusable throughout the day, requires no additional surgery or special infrastructure, and is protected by an international patent family.

The practical application of the Ostofix prototype/product is to provide active continence control for people with an ostomy. In everyday use, Ostofix is placed directly on the stoma and allows the user to retain intestinal contents safely and decide when and where evacuation occurs, rather than relying on passive collection bags.
In practice, the device:
- Prevents involuntary leakage while allowing continuous gas release.
- Enables controlled evacuation via syringe aspiration or connection to a drainage bag.
- Reduces skin complications, infections, and the need for frequent bag changes.
- Improves autonomy, confidence, and quality of life in daily activities such as work, travel, and social life.
- Does not require additional surgery or special infrastructure and can be used as part of routine daily ostomy care.
Overall, Ostofix functions as a daily-use medical device that transforms ostomy management from passive collection to user-controlled continence.
