Through the Straw4Footwear project, new materials for footwear have been developed using by-products from the agricultural industry, promoting a circular economy model. In the case of Straw4Footwear, rice straw—a material that poses an environmental challenge in all rice-growing regions—was used as a starting point. Active compounds were extracted from it to create cosmetic ingredients, while the cellulosic materials were utilized to develop composite materials for use in footwear, including soles and insoles.
