Antimicrobial composite material and its use as packaging material for fresh foods. The present invention refers to an antimicrobial composite material, formed by a polymer matrix and a filler of double copper salt supported on fumed silica. The composite material of the present invention presents low levels of migration due to the strong union of the copper particles within the pyrogenic silica matrix, in addition to a great antimicrobial activity. Thanks to this combination, the material of the present invention can be used as packaging material for fresh foods, providing an extension of the useful life of said foods during storage and transport by guaranteeing their safety and quality, and in turn reducing food loss and waste.
