The invention relates to organocatalysts for producing cyclic carbonates. More specifically, the invention relates to imidazole-derived organocatalysts and to the use thereof for the production of cyclic carbonates from epoxides and carbon dioxide, carried out at a carbon dioxide pressure of 10 bar, at a temperature of 90 degrees C, for reaction times of between 1 and 24 hours and with an organocatalyst concentration of 1 mol.- percent, with high yields being produced.
