The present invention relates to the use of a new species of diptera identified and named as Spanolepis selloanae as a biological-control agent for the exotic invasive plant Cortaderia selloana. The present invention also describes compositions comprising said diptera and/or larvae thereof, and the uses thereof in methods for the control and eradication of said invasive plant. The invention also relates to methods for preserving the control agent.
