Mini Retention System for Existing Fine and Ultrafine Particles in Aerosols (CYCLIMPACT)
P202230019
CIEMAT has developed a small size system for the inertial retention of fine and ultrafine particles and their removal in small aerosol flows. The present invention is a versatile, reusable alternative, with a simple technology and that does not present a recurring need for consumption of fungibles and destined for small-scale applications. This system can be used as a filtration system, as equipment prior to certain gas measuring instruments and as a particle removal system smaller than a certain cut size as a stage prior to particle meters.
• Robust, efficient and durable system that can be manufactured in different materials whether metallic such as plastics or thermoplastics. • Easy maintenance and cleaning. • Their use minimises or, where appropriate, avoids the added operational maintenance costs of replacing and/or changing filtration devices using equipment, such as pre-measurement particle retention systems. • Does not incorporate commercial elements. • Does not require special substrates on the impacting surface, e.g. silicone oil or grease to prevent rebound of particles. This simplifies maintenance. • It is a compact and small device that does not need other elements or passive or active, such as pumps for the flow to pass from its entry to its exit, takes advantage of the pumping systems of the equipment to which it is incorporated. • Versatile device that allows the arrest of the highest percentage of submicron particles of an aerosol or select those that are below a certain size, for subsequent analysis, helping to optimize the analysis since it allows the measurement of gases without interference of suspended particles of sizes greater than the determined. • Versatility in that it is applicable in multiple industrial and research sectors. • The device exhibits high ultrafine particle retention efficiencies, with 100% particle removal above 1μm in all configurations. The invention can be used in those industrial, environmental or air quality sectors, where aerosol meters (gases and particles) are used to control compliance with current regulations or for interest in improving production quality.
