TERPENE BASED THERAPEUTIC DEEP EUTECTIC SYSTEM, METHOD OF OBTAINING AND USES THEREOF
EP3941447
The present disclosure describes a eutectic composition for use in the treatment of cancer comprising a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug and a terpene, preferably ibuprofen and limonene.
In one embodiment, a direct mixture of IBU with LIM in culture medium was performed and antiproliferative activity assessed, where it showed to be totally different from IBU:LIM (1:4) (Figure 3), confirming once more that IBU:LIM (1:4) is a eutectic mixture, different from a mixture of IBU and LIM. These screening tests allow the preparation of systems where it will be possible to take advantage of the interactions effect between the individual components. Furthermore, when in the THEDES form, IBU presents an increase in its solubility of 4.32-fold as compared to IBU in powder form. An increase in the solubility of IBU prevents its precipitation and coagulation, which is a step forward to accomplish desired pharmacological responses. In another embodiment, the anticancer properties of IBU:LIM (1:4) were evaluated analysing the effects on cell cycle, apoptosis, intracellular reactive oxidative species ("ROS") and nitric oxide ("NO") production.
