Sustainable Development Goal:
Applications

The use of non-conjugated chromophoric systems, whose emission and generation of reactive oxygen species increase with aggregation, offers a solution to the problems described for conventional photosensitizers. Systems with these characteristics are based on the intrinsic emission of non-traditional chromophores due to molecular cluster aggregation (CTE). The use of this new type of photosensitizer with this emission mechanism will be a revolutionary alternative to existing ones, since many materials exhibiting the CTE phenomenon are approved by regulatory agencies such as the FDA/EMA for other uses (e.g., excipients), making clinical translation much faster.
