The present invention concerns the field of chemical and environmental technologies and relates to a system and a highly energy efficient method for concentrating saline solutions (which can generically be called brines) and/or recovering water contained in same. These brines can be produced in numerous industrial sectors, such as desalinating plants, plants associated with drilling for gas and oil extraction, power generation plants, leather tanning plants, plants for producing preserved food, olive dressings, salted foods, cured ham and cold meats, oil mills, and all plants that handle high volumes of water (descaling, demineralisation, reverse osmosis, etc.).
