REUSABLE NON-INVASIVE URINARY DEVICE FOR WOMEN IN SUPINE POSITION
PCT/EP2024/062563
Researchers from the Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Design at the Universitat Jaume I and the Fisabio-associated Innovation group of Nurses from the Alcoi and Xàtiva-Ontinyent Health Departments have jointly developed a urinary device for assisting women in urinating in a supine position, which facilitates the flow of fluid out of the device and prevents spillage. In addition to issues in terms of comfort, the devices designed up until now are known to have leakage problems due to poor sealing and attachment. The particular configuration of the invention prevents leakage when using the device, as it is specifically designed for the female anatomy and for use in the supine position. Such leakages do occur in other known urinary devices due to poor fit and sealing, and to the Coandă effect, which is the tendency of the fluid flow to adhere to a nearby surface, resulting in unwanted leakage, as well as irritated skin and difficulty in directing the flow in a precise manner. The device is simple, economical, non-invasive and reusable. There is no need to leave it in place as it is only used during urination, it is adjustable for various sizes and can be adapted to any collection device.
The device offers a number of advantages: - Specifically designed for the female anatomy. - Prevents fluid spills and associated risks. - Non-invasive. - Comfortable. - Adjustable for various sizes. - Applicable to various pathologies. - Simple, economical and reusable (sustainable). - Considered a hygiene product (not necessarily a medical product).
The technology is the subject of a results valorization project.
