In University of Oviedo, for more than two decades we have been developing advanced reflectarray and transmitarray technologies, refining their electromagnetic foundations as well as their design, fabrication, and experimental validation processes. These devices, based on engineered planar architectures, enable high-precision control of the electromagnetic wave, providing performance comparable to high-end antenna systems while maintaining structurally simple, low-profile configurations.

Their passive and planar nature allows electronic beam steering, shaped-beam coverage, and polarization conversion, all without the need for complex feed networks or bulky geometries. Owing to these capabilities, together with their potential for lightweight implementation and compatibility with scalable manufacturing, reflectarrays and transmitarrays stand out as strong candidates for space applications, where efficiency, reliability, and mass reduction are critical.

Applications

Building on more than twenty years of research in reflectarray and transmitarray technologies, we are now transitioning our work into a dual-use spin-off focused on delivering next-generation antenna systems for both space and defense applications. Our engineered planar architectures combine high performance with structural simplicity, providing precise electromagnetic control in compact, lightweight, and scalable formats.

We deliver high-performance, low-profile antenna solutions engineered for the realities of New Space and demanding defense environments compact, scalable, cost-effective, and ready for seamless integration. Our technology enables satellite and system developers to:

• Boost communication capability without expanding spacecraft size,

• Combine antennas and solar panels for optimal use of surface area,

• Support multiband operation with a single lightweight structure,

• Reduce system complexity, mass, and cost.

• Accelerate mission development with reliable, space-ready designs.

Supported by deep expertise in electromagnetic engineering and a clear understanding of real operational needs, our goal is to provide the Space and Defense communities with antenna systems that deliver greater performance, greater flexibility, and greater value within the smallest possible footprint.
