Isabel Díaz

Deputy Vice President of Internationalization and Cooperation at the CSIC

Isabel Díaz earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2001 from the Autonomous University of Madrid with an Extraordinary Doctorate Award. She conducted research stays in Scotland, Sweden, and Japan. She was a Fulbright fellow in the United States at the University of Massachusetts and the University of Minnesota in 2002 and 2003. In 2005, she joined the Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemistry (ICP) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) as a Research Scientist. In 2007, she was awarded the Young Researchers Prize by the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry. Currently, she is a Research Scientist at OPIs in the ICP-CSIC. Additionally, since 2016, she has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. Her main research areas include the synthesis and characterization of zeolites and hybrid porous materials for catalysis applications, with a particular focus on Transmission Electron Microscopy studies. Her current research lines involve the use of natural zeolites in the removal of fluoride and arsenic from drinking water in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and India. She is an active disseminator of scientific knowledge and works towards gender equality in science. Between 2021 and 2022, she collaborated with the Women and Science Unit of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. In June 2022, she was appointed Deputy Vice President of Internationalization and Cooperation at the CSIC.
