Three-dimensional biomimetic model of non-melanoma skin cancer
A model of non-melanoma skin cancer has been developed based on a fibrin-agarose hydrogel together with epithelial cells, stromal cells and cancer cells, which reproduces the characteristics of orthotopic cancer. The model represents an alternative to the use of experimental animals and the development of clinical trials to evaluate the nature of cancer and develop treatments.
High fidelity of the model, which reproduces the main components of the matrix, the main biomarkers, low differentiation of keratinocytes and high proliferative capacity. • Ethical alternative to experimental animals. The use of a skin model reduces the need to use laboratory animals, and can even replace or reduce the performance of clinical trials. • Savings in time and resources linked to the reduction in the use of experimental animals and the performance of clinical trials
