ORGANOID CULTURE SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR STERILISING AN ORGANOID CULTURE SYSTEM
he invention relates to a modular sterilizable system for organoid culture, which comprises a culture module with one or more sample wells and an stirring module that includes an air compressor with flow control means, a nozzle for each sample well, a pressure sensor and a controller that acts on the flow control means according to the pressure reading. The method for sterilizing the system consists in decoupling the two modules, removing the culture module and sterilizing it. The system can have a module for monitoring the growth of the organoids, as well as a module for controlling the physiochemical parameters of the culture.
The device makes it possible to culture organoids that mimic the structure and function of different tissues and organs. This type of organoids fills the gap between in vitro 2D cultures and in vivo models. The organoids cultured in the 4D Smart Bioreactor will reduce the need for in vivo assays, thus decreasing the cost and the usage of experimental animals in biomedicine. The impact of this device will be two-fold. Firstly, it will speed up the drug development and validation processes. Secondly, it will also have a significant impact in basic research, by providing the researchers with affordable in vitro models that are functionally and structurally closer to the living organism.
