SUBSTRATES FOR CULTURING AND STIMULATING CELLS
WO21069604
The present invention relates to the use of a substrate comprising a textured surface with a plurality of protrusions and a bulk portion, for promoting neural cell network growth in vitro and/or ex-vivo; for a culturing method; and for complex neural cell network reconstruction. The invention also relates to the use of a substrate for cell stimulation; and to a probe, a stimulation device, and a monitor device comprising the substrate and their uses. In addition, the invention relates to compositions comprising the substrate and their medical uses. Moreover the invention relates to a kit comprising the substrate.

NanoScell - the substrates being developed under this patent - are multiwell plates that will contribute to increase cell based assay translation by creating a more physiologically relevant microenvironment for the cultures than standard cell cultures carried out on flat static surfaces. In addition, and compared to be biochemical factors used today for cell guided growth, the biophysical stimulation in NanoScell multiwell plates would be highly reproducible as they are obtained by engineering means.
NanoScell will expand the range of tools and materials for cell biologists and is particularly useful in regenerative medicine. This this will be especially relevant in neuroscience where conductive nanostructured surfaces will find a competitive advantage to provide simultaneously topographical and electrical stimulation.
