DIRECT MANUFACTURING OF THERMOCHROMIC PRODUCTS WITH HIGH VO2 LOAD
PCT/ES2022/070284
The invention consists of methods for the manufacture of high VO2-loaded thermochromic products from the monoclinic M1 phase, consisting of the controlled heat treatment of pure V in air-open tube. Unlike other more complex methods of manufacturing high VO2-loaded products, a commercially available vanadium metal precursor is used at a much cheaper price than vanadium dioxide. These methods are compatible with the doping of the particles by prior impregnation of the vanadium with other reagents. Likewise, the products obtained, the apparatus for their manufacture, which is applicable to other micro- and nano-structured formats of the material beyond the particles, such as compact thin layers and porous surfaces of pure vanadium, as well as some of the uses of these products, are the object of the invention.

The reactions are environmentally friendly (green chemistry) as they use only electricity to heat an open tube furnace; no assistance from reactive gases or catalysts, no vacuum, no pressure; and with only the need for atmospheric conditions, and a metal nanoparticle precursor V that is commercially available at a much cheaper price than vanadium dioxide nanoparticles. In addition, this method is amenable to application to nanoporous thin films or vanadium nanoparticles deposited on other substrates.
