Flood infiltrometer

Flood infiltrometer, which consists of a methacrylate cylinder with a millimetre scale for taking readings and which is attached to the surface of the soil by means of a steel cylinder which is inserted a few centimetres into the ground. The methacrylate cylinder has a grid held in place by adjustable clamps which prevents plant debris from being lifted up during the test and prevents degradation of the soil surface by the impact of water when the cylinder is filled. The purpose of this apparatus is to carry out infiltration measurements on forestry land, agricultural land, grassland, gardens and grass sports fields.

-The reading of the infiltrated volume is facilitated by the use of a transparent methacrylate tube, instead of opaque materials, and by means of a graduated scale incorporated into the infiltration meter, visible at all times. -The introduction of the infiltrometer into the ground is improved by means of a galvanised steel cylinder with a bevelled lower edge, ensuring greater durability compared to other infiltrometers available on the market. -Due to its system and the improvements introduced, the equipment transport and installation effort is greatly reduced, which favours its use over other costly and complex equipment, especially in hilly or difficult to access terrain. -Measurement errors due to the use of small infiltration meters are reduced by designing a methodology to reduce lateral infiltration. -Water consumption during the test is reduced from several hundreds or thousands of litres to several litres. -Soil compaction during the test and the lifting of soil bedding materials, which would cause the results to vary, is avoided. -Because of the great variability of infiltration in relation to soil characteristics, this system makes it easy to replicate tests at low cost and to obtain statistically significant measurements quickly and easily.
