COOLCRETE - Photonic Metaconcrete Panel for Passive Cooling

A cement-based photonic composite engineered at the micro- and nanoscale to achieve high solar reflectance and enhanced thermal emissivity, enabling passive cooling below ambient temperature without energy consumption. The prototype demonstrates how structural building materials can be transformed into functional photonic surfaces for sustainable climate control.


The prototype can be directly integrated into building envelopes (facades, roofs, pavements) to reduce cooling demand in urban environments. Its applications include energy-efficient buildings, urban heat island mitigation, and climate-resilient infrastructure, particularly in hot and sunny climates. The solution is compatible with conventional construction processes, enabling scalable deployment.
