Plug&Play Single Photon Sources

g2-Zero is developing the first scalable Plug&Play quantum light sources based on semiconductors for applications in quantum communications, computing and sensing.
Quantum light sources are at the foundation of the quantum supply chain. Our mission is to remove the supplier bottleneck by producing these devices in volume thanks to an innovative approach to industrialisation which will enable quantum markets to explode.

Quantum communication technologies like Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) are set to mitigate the threat of quantum computers by providing information security solutions that are provably secure by the laws of physics. QKD is just one use case, which, just like photonic quantum computing and quantum sensors, relies on single photons and, therefore, on single-photon sources.
Quantum networks used for quantum communications operate using single photons from sources which ideally must be deterministic (one photon can be emitted at any arbitrarily determined time by the user), high-brightness (the number of photons is maximum - limited only by the time duration of a single-photon pulse) and high-purity (the probability of multiphoton emission is 0%).
In the quantum era, there will be a large demand for units of such single-photon sources. On the one hand, a global deployment of quantum networks could require of hundreds of thousands of nodes requiring several sources at each node for redundancy and multichannel communication. Meanwhile, in the case of photonic quantum computing, it is estimated that 12,000 single-photon sources will be needed to realise just one useful photonic quantum computer.
